Audition
Locations
Auditions for the
orchestra are held every fall. Auditions are usually held on the 4th
Sunday in August at The University of Florida campus music building.
Auditions
for 2008-2009 Season:
Sunday, August
24, 2008
1:30pm in Room 121 in the Music Building, University of Florida
ALACHUA COUNTY YOUTH ORCHESTRA AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
VIOLIN:
1. A short piece, or portion thereof, representative
of the student’s musical and technical ability.
2. Fluency in 1st through 5th positions and familiarity
with the higher positions.
3. 3 octave major scales in the following keys: C,
F, B-flat, E-flat, A-flat, G, D,A, and E.
4. Suzuki book 5 or above or equivalent. (Wohlfart,
Kaiser etudes, etc.)
5. Sight-reading. (Provided at the audition)
VIOLA:
1. A short piece, or portion thereof, representative
of the student’s musical and technical ability.
2. Fluency in 1st and 3rd positions and familiarity
with the higher positions.
3. 2 octave scales in the following keys: C, F,
B-flat, E-flat, A-flat, G, D, A, and E.
4. Suzuki book 4 or equivalent.
5. Sight reading. (Provided at the audition.)
CELLO:
1. A short piece, or portion thereof, representative
of the student’s musical and technical ability.
2. Fluency in 1st thru 7th position with extensions
and knowledge of thumb positions.
3. 3 octave scales in the following keys: C,
F, B-flat, E-flat, A-flat, G, D, A, and E.
4. Suzuki book 3 or equivalent. (Schroeder Studies,
#50 and above, etc.)
5. Sight reading. (Provided at the audition.)
DOUBLE BASS:
1. A short piece, or portion thereof, representative
of the student’s musical and technical ability.
2. One octave scale in the following keys: C,F,G
and D.
3. Sight reading. (Provided at the audition.)
WINDS:
1. A short solo piece, or portion thereof, demonstrating
the student’s musical and technical ability. FBA grade 4 minimum,
grade 5 or 6 preferred or...
2. You may play your All State audition music.
3. Major scales and arpeggios in the following
keys: C,F, B-flat, E-flat, A-flat, G,D,A, and E.
4. Sight reading. (Provided at the audition.)
PERCUSSION:
1. A short prepared piece on one of the following:
snare drum, tympani or mallet instrument, representative of the student’s
musical and technical ability or...
2. You may play your All State audition music.
3. Knowledge of basic rudiments, stick technique, etc.
4. Sight reading. (Provided at the audition)
5. Percussionists need to bring all necessary
sticks and mallets to the audition. They will NOT be provided.
Dues for membership in the orchestra are $160.00 per year for the first family member. Additional family members are $80 per year. Need-based scholarships reducing the fee to $40 per year, will be available to students making the orchestra based on their audition who provide documentation from their school of eligibility for free or reduced lunch.
