The Alachua County Youth Orchestra has since its inception held an annual concerto competition. For several years, it has been known as the David Hubbell Concerto Competition in memory of Dr. David Hubbell, a former, long-term Board member and father of three former orchestra members. The competition is open to any instrumental or vocal music student in school grades 6 - 12 who is a member of ACYO or studies with a music teacher of Alachua County or resides in Alachua County. It provides an opportunity each year for one young musician of Alachua County to perform as a soloist with an orchestra. The competition
is scheduled in early February of each year, and the winner performs
with the Alachua County Youth Orchestra during its Spring Concert.
Application to compete, using a form
available from ACYO plus a $15 application fee, is due 15 December
